Fallin Miners Welfare, located in the former pit village of Fallin near Stirling, Scotland, is a vital community hub with deep roots in the coal mining industry, specifically the Polmaise Colliery (3&4) (1905–1987). Established to support the local mining population, the welfare center has evolved into a key venue for social events, including weddings and meetings. It serves as a reminder of the area’s industrial heritage, which was marked by strong community solidarity during strikes.
History and Background
- Origin: The village of Fallin was established in the early 1900s to support the Polmaise Colliery, which began production in 1905.
- Miners Welfare Role: The Welfare, along with the nearby Gothenburg Pub, was central to the social life of the mining community. It provided a venue for leisure, support, and community cohesion.
- Industrial Conflict: Polmaise Colliery was a major site of struggle during the 1984–1985 miners’ strike, with miners fighting to save the last pit in the area.
- Closure and Legacy: The colliery closed in 1987, but the community, supported by the welfare and local groups like Fallin Community Voice, has continued to thrive.
- Modern Day: Fallin Miners Welfare continues to operate as a community hub for social events and gatherings and including hosting the local community food initiative
The institution remains a testament to the resilience and enduring, tight-knit spirit of the Fallin community, which, despite the loss of its primary industry, maintains its social and historical ties to the mining era.

Fallin Miners Welfare Roof Repair & Renewal
Help Us Renew & Repair the Roof at Fallin Miners Welfare
Fallin Miners Welfare was built by our local miners in 1924 to bring people together during the hardest of times. It was a place of support, solidarity, and community… and it still is today.
For generations, The Club has been a lifeline for local people. A place to meet, celebrate, support one another, and feel connected. However the roof repairs and renewals are now necessary.
What We’re Doing:
We are raising funds to carry out a full roof renewal and repair, ensuring the building remains safe, dry, and fit for purpose for years to come. This essential work will:
• Protect the building from further damage
• Ensure the safety of all users and volunteers
• Allow The Club to remain open and operational
• Safeguard a valued community asset for future generations
Why Your Support Matters:
As a community-run venue, Fallin Miners Welfare relies heavily on fundraising, volunteers, and the generosity of local people. The cost of this work is beyond what day-to-day income can cover, which is why we’re asking for your help.
This building is the legacy of the miners who once fought tirelessly for our village. We simply cannot allow such a meaningful part of our heritage to fall into disrepair.
Our committee is actively raising funds through community events and sponsored activities. So keep your eyes peeled on our socials and keep Saturday 11th April free in your diary for some fundraising fun!
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page also helps us reach more people who care about keeping this important place alive.
Together, we can honour the legacy of the miners who built this place and ensure Fallin Miners Welfare remains at the heart of our community for generations to come.
Thank you ❤️
We hope as many people as possible can support us. Whether you’ve had your wedding with us, been a guest at a family celebration, or held a charity night here. Every donation, big or small, helps.
